For Individuals (Form 1040)

  • Identity: Driver’s license/State ID, SSN/ITIN for you, spouse, and dependents

  • Income: W-2s; 1099-NEC/MISC; 1099-INT/DIV/B; 1099-R; SSA-1099; K-1s

  • Deductions/Credits: Mortgage 1098; property tax; charitable gifts; education 1098-T; student loan 1098-E; childcare provider name/FEIN; HSA forms 1099-SA/5498-SA; medical expenses; IRA/HSA contributions

  • Health Coverage: 1095-A/B/C

  • Direct Deposit: Routing & account numbers

Self-Employed / Gig (Schedule C)

  • Income summary (platform statements, invoices, bank deposits)

  • Expense log by category (mileage, home office, supplies, phone/internet, insurance, advertising, professional services)

  • 1099-K/1099-NEC forms; business bank/credit statements

Rental Property (Schedule E)

  • Rents received; security deposits; management statements

  • Expenses: mortgage interest (1098), taxes, insurance, utilities, repairs, HOA/dues, travel/mileage

  • Closing statements for purchases/refis; depreciation schedules if prior years

Business Entities (1120/1120S/1065)

  • Prior-year return + depreciation schedules

2) Key Deadlines (Tax Season)

  • Jan 31: W-2s and most 1099s due to taxpayers 

  • Mar 15: S-Corp (1120S) & Partnership (1065) returns or extension

  • Apr 15: Individual (1040) & C-Corp (1120) returns or extension; Q1 estimates 

  • Jun 15: Q2 estimates

  • Sep 15: Extended 1120S/1065; Q3 estimates

  • Oct 15: Extended 1040/1120

 

If a deadline falls on a weekend/holiday, it generally moves to the next business day.

3) Track Your Refund

  • IRS “Where’s My Refund?” – check status with SSN/ITIN, filing status, refund amount

  • Minnesota Refund – MN Department of Revenue refund status

 

Bring your return copy and refund amount if you need help checking status in-office.
